Earlier this week, a mother and TikTok user by the name @queenbv59 went viral for a video showcasing how she’s prepared for the hot weather and long lines she must endure (it’s not clear in what city or state) in order to cast her early vote in the 2020 presidential election

“I’m going to vote, and ain’t shit going to stop me,” she says. “Not this sun, not this heat.”

She’s brought a folding chair with a compartment for snacks. She has a fan. The video is catchy and heartwarming—until you remember how absurd it is that someone has to endure fatigue and hunger in order to cast their ballot in the first place. Long lines likely mean that not enough polling stations have been set up in that particular area, which is one of many creeping forms of voter suppression throughout the U.S. It can be frustrating to hear that the only power we have to change that is to, well, vote. But since nothing can be done about it right now, TikTok doesn’t want those conditions to stop people from turning out. So, naturally, users on the app have made waiting in these lines and preparing for the slog its own kind of trend.

User @kristina_hoertner documented her morning getting up to vote early in Tennessee with the Lion King soundtrack, putting on bold red lipstick and donning a slick black outfit to wait in line.

“been waiting for this day for a long time, never thought I’d be so excited to vote but here we are!” she captioned the video.

Others made videos with advice based on their specific experiences—for this Tenesee voter, the line moved quickly but she still brought along water and a snack.

Others celebrated the long line, seeing it as a sign of people’s dedication to participating in democracy.

Woke up at 6:30 AM for this! So proud of Texas for early voting! #bidenharris2020 #earlyvoting #voteblue #votehimout #texas #greenscreenvideo
